Counselor/Advocates interview the caller, assess immediate needs, and review available options. They do not tell the client what to do. Counselor/Advocates educate clients about the types of abuse, the repercussions, and the impact on children. They also connect clients to other community services, as needed. Counselor/Advocates offer supportive services and information, for example:
The Counselor/Advocate talks with the client to assess her safety plan. The advocate offers suggestions for changing the safety plan if it is inadequate in keeping the client and her children safe.
